SaaS isn’t dead

May 2, 2026by @thedude

Hot take: SaaS isn’t dead. We’re just looking at the wrong layer.

If anything, I’m relying on SaaS more today than at any point in the last 26 years of building companies.

I’m about to launch a new product on May 1st, built and operated by a fully agentic team (minus the founders).

And the stack?

It’s not less SaaS. It’s more.

Slack. Telegram. Discord. Fastmail. GitHub. Notion. 1Password. Plus a dozen others.

Here’s the part some people are missing:

When you stop wasting time rebuilding commodity tools, you move faster. Period.

Even if you can build it yourself, you shouldn’t.

The real constraint right now isn’t engineering talent. It’s speed, coordination, and focus.

SaaS solves that.

AI doesn’t replace SaaS.. it leans on it.

The more agentic your workflows become, the more you need systems that handle identity, communication, state, and coordination reliably.

That’s SaaS.

So no, SaaS isn’t dying.

It’s becoming infrastructure.

If you’re still trying to rebuild everything from scratch, you’re not ahead of the curve.

You’re just slower.

What are you building? What has your experience been?
